On loan Sunderland central defender Neill Collins has confirmed he will be returning to the Stadium of Light when his half season loan deal expires. Collins has been an almost ever present in the heart of the Pools defence since agreeing to the switch to Victoria Park but he will be returning to the Black Cats in an attempt to win a place in Sunderland?s struggle against relegation from the Premiership.

Collins told Sunderland?s official website:-

‘I’ll be back at Sunderland early in the New Year. I’ve enjoyed my time here. I’ve played every week, it has given me some good experience and I’ve really benefited from it.

I’m looking forward to getting back to Sunderland and I want to push for a place in the first team. I’m not the type of player who wants to sit around in the reserves. Martin Scott and everyone here have been great to me. I’ll leave with fond memories.

I know the manager [Mick McCarthy] has kept tabs on me here and we’ll have to see what happens. I’m looking forward to the challenge.’

Collins departure will mean that another former Black Cat will line up alongside Michael Nelson in the heart of the Pools defence, Darren Williams will move from right back into the centre of the defence in a partnership which was successfully tried when Pools played in the FA cup this season.

We wish Neill all the best on his return to the Stadium of Light, thanks for your efforts for Hartlepool United Neill.
