Manager Ronnie Moore has admitted that Hartlepool certainly needed to grind out the victory at Yeovil this weekend.

Yeovil Town 1 Hartlepool 2 & Highlights

Speaking to the Official Site after seeing us twice take the lead through Fenwick and Walker to secure all three points, Moore said it was certainly a tough game but having dug in, he was delighted to see us come out with the points.

He also didn’t pretend it was a classic either, but taking the win so late on was a source of delight.

‘We ground out the result rather than played well. I think it was a scrappy, poor game really and that`s probably as bad as we`ve been as a team so far this season – and yet we win!’

The gaffer went on to say that in terms of our passing play it just ‘wasn’t there’ at all, and for him our ball retention was dire as well adding that we ‘gave the ball away for fun’ so in many ways he couldn’t have grumbled had it finished one all and we shared the points as that probably would’ve been a fair result in reality.

‘But we`ll take the win, there`s no doubt about that.’

Ending his interview he went on to credit the players for their spirit, even if the quality wasn’t there, as he knows they didn’t give up and in games like this you have to battle and they did that for him.

‘I have to praise the lads because they kept going and going and going – and in the end it was the two substitutes who combined for the winner so sometimes you get those things right too. I told Brad to go on and make a name for himself and I was really pleased to see him hit the net because he hasn`t had much joy recently. We need to get back on a roll now but that won`t be easy because we have two really tough home games coming up.’
