Michael Maidens RIP

It is with great sadness that I must announce the death of Hartlepool United youngster Michael Maidens.

Maidens died late last night and all Hartlepool fixtures have been called off as a mark of respect, including the first team fixture at Swansea.

Maidens, 20, made 13 starts and 18 substitute appearances for Pools and made his debut against Crystal Palace in the Carling Cup in 2004.

He was part of the squad that won promotion last season and the one that reached the play-off final in 2005 and he also spent time on loan at York City. He scored one goal for Pools which was an amazing goal against Huddersfield in 2006.

I’d like to offer my condolences to Michael’s family and friends at this terrible time.
