This morning’s Northern Echo newspaper claims that former Hartlepool United boss Mike Newell is trying to sign Pools young striker Adam Boyd.

The Echo claims after selling Curtis Davies to West Brom in the summer for £3 million Newell is about to go shopping and Adam Boyd is one of his targets. Newell told the Echo:-

‘There is money there but it is not millions and I won’t just bring faces in for the sake of it.

What we will do is bring young players in to strengthen the squad to help us in the future.’

It is believed that Cardiff City and Leeds United are also interested in Boyd although Cardiff look set to sign Darlington striker Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu in the next few days.

Pools will want top dollar for Boyd and I think any initial bid from Luton would be turned down flat. I’d be very surprised if Ken Hodcroft would entertain any bid of less that £750,000 for Pools must saleable assest.
