Lowest Ebb!

We’ve had some tough times this season, and in recent seasons, and as much as it could get worse (we’ll pray it doesn’t) maybe the Blyth Spartans defeat has seen Pools reach the lowest ebb, as they say.

For most of that first half on Friday we looked in control of that FA Cup tie with it just a mater of how many we would score as we played some good football and didn’t look in too much danger as we rightly took the lead in the end, but it was the fact that we only went into the break 1-0 up at the Vic after much domination that caused us problems.

That and the mass amount of energy used up in a frantic all out first half assault!

As a Non League part time side Blyth Spartans should have been put away and our fitness levels should have been superior but it looked to me as if we threw so much at that first half we didn’t keep enough in reserve and they exploited that, that and the fact that we’re mentally weak and completely fragile as when that equaliser went in (it could only have been him) the heads dropped and any chance of winning on the night went, losing on the night wouldn’t have surprised and it didn’t in the end when we lost it in the last minute.

I’m still optimistic that this lowest ebb isn’t going to get any lower and we’ll somehow manage to claw our way out of League 2 trouble, even though it’s difficult to imagine how at the moment, so this FA Cup upset will work one of two ways for us now.

It’ll spur us on to turn things around or leave the confidence levels completely shot and Paul Murray will be out of a job in the New Year with the next man in place at Pools likely to see us go through the motions of relegation.

I know which one I’d prefer, Murray can only do so much and some players need to do more but there’s no ‘i’ in team is there so only a team effort from all can help turn this around.
