It’s a New Year but it was the same story for Hartlepool on Saturday afternoon as our latest defeat was suffered against promotion chasing Wycombe at Adams Park.

The one-nil defeat, with us ending with 10-men, means that we’ve now slipped further adrift from safety with the gap now increased to 10-points….

Wycombe’s new loanee from Millwall, Onyedinma, had an early chance to put the hosts ahead but as he went to fire home he lost his balance and the chance went – it wasn’t too much longer though before the breakthrough did come.

Duckworth lost the ball in the Wycombe box with the home side breaking away with Onyedinma (37) beating Flinders to make it one-nil before the break.

After Murphy, Pierre and Mawson all went close to extending the lead for the hosts we were denied an equalise with three-minutes to play when Jones headed against a post but it wasn’t to be with the one-nil defeat compounded by the late sending off for Hawkins.
