Luke James has said he can’t wait for the season to get going now following the release of Hartlepool’s fixtures for the coming season.

The youngster finished last season as the club’s top scorer and won both the Players’ and Fans’ Player of the Year Awards, and speaking to the Official Site following the release of our fixture list for the coming year, he said he was very confident that we would enjoy a much better season this time round following our 19th finish at the last time of asking.

‘I think the first game will be a hard start for us because Stevenage will want to impress after the season they’ve just had. But I don’t see why we can’t go there and get the three points and if we do then it will give the players and the fans a big confidence boost. The earlier you can get the points on board the better, so we want to go there and be positive and get a good start under our belts.’

With the two longest trips of the year coming quite early in – in fact it’s said we will cover the best part of 3500 miles in the opening nine weeks – James feels that getting those trips out of the way early, could be a blessing in disguise.

‘We’re so used to the travelling by now – and I bet our fans are as well! If we can get that out of the way and have some good points on the board then we’ll be laughing after that. It could be a real benefit to us to get these longer journeys out of the way early on, especially if we can go down to the likes of Exeter and Plymouth and get some good results.’
