Interviews for the vacant position of Hartlepool United manager are due to take place this week.

The club have been receiving applications since the departure of Neale Cooper two weeks ago and chairman Ken Hodcroft is expected to interview candidates this week.

Brian Laws was sounded out soon after Cooper’s departure but chose to join Scunthorpe instead while reports in the town have also suggested former Newcastle star Peter Beardsley is also among those to contacted regarding the position.

However, former Hull boss Phil Brown remains favourite for the position, with Micky Barron’s chances of taking the reins thought to have been all but ended by Saturday’s hammering at Chesterfield.
