Hartlepool United did everything but score in tonight’s relegation fight against Colchester, but the result leaves Pools facing a tough battle to stay in the division.
Simon Walton returned to the side after missing Sauturday’s defeat at Doncaster and Pools created the first chance of the game when James Poole volleyed wide.
Pools were given a big boost just before the interval when Jabo Ibehre was sent off for a lunge on Neil Austin.
Into the second half and Pools were denied a goal when Charlie Wyke’s effort was blocked before a goalmouth scramble.
Poole then smashed an effort off the crossbar before substitute Nathan Luscombe headed wide but Pools were unable to find a vital goal.
The result leaves Pools seven points adrift of safety with just 10 games remaining.
