Hartlepool’s Great Escape Continues At Scunthorpe

Hartlepool United continued their impressive run with a win at fellow strugglers Scunthorpe.

Coming into the game on a five match unbeaten run, manager John Hughes stuck with the same side that beat Leyton Orient last weekend for the trip to fellow strugglers Scunthorpe.

James Poole, a player who has benefited most from a run in the side, gave Pools the lead after 20 minutes with a volley after a good team move.

That lead was doubled before half time when Jonathan Franks fired home after a mazy run by the winger.

Pools remained well on top and could have sealed the win when Poole’s long range volley cannoned back off the crossbar within minutes of the second half getting underway.

The last quarter of an hour was a tense affair after James Alabi pulled a goal back for Scunthrope with a close range header but Pools held on to seal a valuable victory at the bottom of the table.

The result puts Hartlepool level on points with third-bottom Bury and 8 behind today’s opponents, who now sit just outside the drop zone.
