We’ve seen one striker added recently with Lewis Alessandra in from Rochdale, a released one in Scott Fenwick join York whereas former Hartlepool striker Luke James has joined Bristol Rovers on loan from Peterborough.

A player of experience, at this level and in League 1, is forward Alessandra with him snapped up by Craig Hignett on a free transfer following his release by Rochdale.

The 27-year-old was limited to just 11-matches for Rochdale in his season with them with him ending it with York, where he also played 11-matches and scored two-goals having enjoyed his most successful period with Plymouth when he averaged one in four at League 2 level.

Having signed him Hignett was quoted by the BBC as saying.

‘He’s a good footballer, he scores goals, he’s intelligent and he’s ambitious. I wanted to add goals to the squad and I’ve gone out and tried to find players who will fit in to how we play and what we want to do.’

Fenwick was released by Hignett with him now signing for York, who dropped out of the Football League last season, on a one-year contract with the option of a second.

As such the 26-year-old former Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Sunderland academy player is back in non-league where he had been so impressive with Dunston UTS until he was signed by Hartlepool in November 2014.

He scored six-goals in 30-matches last season also playing three on loan at Tranmere.

James returned to Victoria Park last season on loan last season having had a disappointing spell with Peterborough following his £500,000 move in 2014, who transfer-listed him this summer.

Hignett was interested in again re-signing the 21-year-old but he’ll spend this season on loan with Bristol Rovers.
