Hartlepool United Club Statement

Hartlepool United Football Club have released a statement following the tragic death of Michael Maidens.

A club spokesman said: “Michael Maidens was tragically killed in a road traffic accident last night.”

“It has been mutually decided that our game with Swansea be postponed and that has the full backing of the Football League.”

“Our thoughts and best wishes are with Michael’s family at this very sad time.”

Police have reported that Maidens was a passenger in a car which lost control and collided with a metal post on the A174 at 8.25pm on Friday night.

I would like to echo the sentiments expressed by the club and wish Michael’s family and friends my deepest sympathies at this shocking time.
