Hartlepool are represented in the latest Football League team of the week that has been selected after this week’s action.

The performance by Craig Hignett on his managerial debut in the Hartlepool win over Yeovil was enough to earn a place in the side as the manager alongside the other most impressive performers in the Football League pyramid.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Hignett was selected as part of the team but explaining the choice – the Football League blurb read.

‘Hignett’s management career got off to a great start as Hartlepool defeated fellow Sky Bet League 2 strugglers Yeovil Town.

‘Goals from Billy Paynter and Adam Jackson helped Pools to a 2-1 win, which saw them move three points ahead of the Glovers with three games in-hand.’

It’s always good to see us represented in this way, and well played to them for this recognition, but the most important thing about the weekend was of course the two-one Pools win.

Full Team – Ali Al-Habsi (Reading), Rod McDonald (Northampton Town), Aden Flint (Bristol City), Ben Davies (Portsmouth), Kyel Reid (Bradford City), Philip Billing (Huddersfield Town), Michael Doughty (Swindon Town), Joe Cole (Coventry City), Lyle Taylor (AFC Wimbledon), Byron Harrison (Stevenage), Ryan Brunt (Plymouth Argyle).

Manager – Craig Hignett (Hartlepool United)
