A Scottish Highland League superstar has joined Hartlepool United to help give the squad tips on coaching and fitness.

Deveronvale playmaker Mark Cowie joined United a fortnight ago to help out with coaching and fitness at the club. He told the Press & Journal that Pools invited him along ‘The club’s fitness coach and he asked me down to help him with the Hartlepool first-team squad. It is really exciting and I am learning a lot.’

Cowie said that he’s been impressed with the standard of the Hartlepool squad ‘The Hartlepool players are extremely fit. There’s no doubt that the more you go up the leagues the sharper the players are and they play a high-tempo game.’

The 22-year-old midfielder said he was surprised at the warm welcome he recieved when he joined Pools ‘I was pleasantly surprised with the reaction of the players when they saw a young lad from the Broch coming in and telling them what to do.’

Cowie will spend one more week at Pools before returning to his parent club who won the Highland Football League title in 2006.
