A late equaliser at the Vic against Accrington on Tuesday made sure that Hartlepool stayed out of the League 2 relegation zone, but we’ll definitely be grateful to this as you would worry about our ability to get out of the bottom two again if we slip back in having worked so hard to escape previously!

With Cheltenham winning, had we not gained this point from the one-one draw – in an ill-tempered game that saw eight yellow cards dished out ended in a draw, our worse goal-difference would have seen them jump off the bottom of the Football League not only above Tranmere but also us.

Accrington, safe in midtable, went into the half time break one-up thanks to a fine Windass (38) strike and this looked like it could win them the points and see us suffer a third successive defeat!

10-minutes from time though Harewood’s (80) headed home a Jones cross to level things up and leave us on course for a precious point, which might have been more in the end….

Fenwick’s recovery continued but he couldn’t maintain his good run of goalscoring form, which made it all the more of a blow when he was ruled out, as he failed to hit the target for a potential winner. Although we had Flinders and Mirfin to thank, as the worked in combination to deny Mingoia a winner for the visitors.

This point keeps us a point, but as said with a worse goal-difference, ahead of Cheltenham with it looking likely that it’ll now be a three-way battle for one survival place between us two and Tranmere, who are now bottom.
