A strong Hartlepool Reserves side beat their Middlesbrough counterparts at Billingham Synthonia’s Central Avenue.

In a goalless first half it was Pools’ second string who went closest with a Michael Mackay effort but the two sides went in at the break level.

David Foley gave Pools the lead when he tapped home following Jon-Andre Fredriksen’s effort. Michael Mackay had another saved by Boro keeper Adam Smith as Pools took control of the game.

There was drama as Ben Clark was sent off before substitute Billy Greulich doubled the lead and Pools were able to hold on for the win against Martin Scott’s men.

With the Reserve Team doing so well it makes you wonder why some of them aren’t given more of a chance.
