Last season’s 20th place finish, and demoralising lack of summer signing’s within the Hartlepool United rank has left many to forecast a season of struggle on the cards.

The new campaign is now upon us, and once again us Poolies more than most are gracing ourselves for another nine months of agony and the ecstasy. But experts are forecasting a season of more disappointment – rather than joy.

There reasons are simple. After finishing last season being docked three points, and surviving thanks to finding the net more, Pools have signed just four new players, and the pre-season results haven’t set the world alight.

Fans have expressed their opinions on the Vital Hartlepool Forums, and you can have your say by joining up.

”23rd. For the first time since last season I am being optimistic.”

”If we survive this this season it actually may come under one of our greatest achievements. My opinion is a calculated and strategic viewpoint based on the in depth research I have done this summer due to my Vital Countdown….we deffo have one of the four worst squads in this division sadly. But anything can happen and it can happen from…today”

Moscrof

”I think we may surprise this season, we are tipped to go down so anything is a bonus. 15th my prediction.

Chrissy Steve

”A lot of people are writing us off already, before a ball has been kicked in anger, lets just wait and see shall we. I’m not expecting us to make the Play-Offs but 15/16th might just be within our grasp.
A bit of faith in our team and support from the fans will go a long way in helping us to overcome the doubters and pessimists.”

And as for the so called ‘experts’ in the national newspapers, they too are writing little old Hartlepool United off again. With a lack of signings docking at Hartlepool this summer, they are predicting another season of intense struggle, and even some heartache.

Bookmakers and journalists alike have named their predictions for the new season.

Sun: 19th

Coral have Hartlepool down as the sixth favourite for a return to League Two, with a price of 5/2 on the table for Pools to go down. Dag & Red are the favourites followed by Exeter and Paul Dickov’s Oldham.

Ladbrokes meanwhile have placed the Monkey Hangers as fifth favourites for the drop, at the same price of 5/2. Today’s opponents are 9/4 for a quick fire return to the basement league.

Whereas William Hill on the other hand have Pools as hot favourites for the drop, with Chris Turner’s men labelled at a price of 7/4.

However Sky Bet have a little more confident in Chris Turner’s side, with Sky giving fans a price of 2/1 for relegation – leaving Pools as sixth favourites for the drop.

Betfed have placed Pools as one of the four teams to face a return to the fourth tier.

But Hartlepool are no stranger’s to low expectations; and as the club moto states; never say die.
