Manager Colin Cooper has confirmed that Michael Duckworth will captain the team on his return to Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday.

He joined us from them last August after impressing during a pre season trial and he went on to play 36 times for us in his debut season, and the 22 year old is set for his first return to his old club this weekend and Cooper has said the right back will wear the armband to acknowledge the occasion, especially as he left them as their Player of the Year.

Speaking to the Official Site Coops explained.

‘Absolutely, we feel it’s a nice touch for Michael to be the captain. It’s continuing the theme from Wednesday when we gave the captaincy to Brad Walker, who is a Billingham lad. We’re struggling to find a Sunderland connection at the moment though, apart from Jordan Richards who is a big Sunderland fan!’

In terms of the captaincy for the season, Cooper admits he’s still weighing that one up and he’s keeping an open mind ahead of the campaign with a number of options available to him.

‘We have four or five players who have leadership qualities. I don’t want to jump into that one, I’m going to let pre season progress and see how things develop.’
