Hartlepool United striker Jon Daly has had his red card from Pools defeat at Chester City on Friday night rescinded after Pools appealed the decision.

Pools sent the FA an enchanced video thanks to ITV after Pools boss Danny Wilson was left fuming following Dave Artell’s dying duck impression. Today the FA have ruled the sending off was ‘wrongful’.

After the game Chester boss Mark Wright commented:

“Right under our noses, he’s thrown an elbow and hit him. If you lead with the elbow then that is what happens. Whether he’s thrown it intentionally I don’t know but the linesman’s seen it that way.”

But Danny Wilson fumed to the Hartlepool Mail:

“I think it was a very harsh sending off, the referee was on the wrong side to see what happened, it was more the linesman’s decision, but it was down to the player conning the referee.

In 30 years in football I have never seen that kind of thing live. I have seen it on television but never in person. It would be nice to get him on television and see what he says – “It was a big right-hander?” I doubt it.

We will wait and see just how he conducts himself in the press.”

Big Jon is now free to face Darlington in Saturday’s derby match at Victoria Park.

Surprised by the decision, must admit it looked a definate elbow from where I was. The linesman must be to blame for this one as he was only about 5 yards away. I thought you played very well with the ten men were a little unfortunate not to get a point. These sort of decisions cost games and if you look like your staying in this league for a couple of seaons get used to it we have lost plenty of points due to this type of decision.

I’m surpirsed as well, the linesman was right next to it and from where I was the arm was swung. Whether it was claimed as meant I don’t know but Artell rarely goes to ground.

“Artell rarely goes to ground”, one of your fans was telling me he has a habit of doing it. He told me he didn’t know whether to believe him as it was like “the boy who cried wolf” to quote him.

I’ve seen the replay quite a lot and I’ve seen no evidence of swung arms and the FA rarely rescind decisions so they must have been sure it wasn’t. They also rescinded it very quickly. Best of luck for the season until Artell visits the Vic.

I’m even more surprised then. Artell isn’t our most popular player but thats due to his passing ability and the fact he rarely play’s it out neatly. I can’t believe one of our fans would say that, I’m happy to state it again Artell rarely goes to ground easy. I’ll also say again the linesman who was right next to them flaged straight away. I can’t comment on how it was meant, most players use the arms for balance, but Artell isn’t that type of player.

The thing, the replays showed that Daly’s arms are down. That’s why I think our manager was so angry about it.

To quote Silloth from the Chester forums (http://www.devachat.com/index.php?s=0b345ab097f692ff3cb2c69509017188&showtopic=34441), “The problem with Artell is he’s been keen to exaggerate incidents in the past so I dont know if he genuinely got a whack in the face or it was more cry wolf.”. Most Chester fans belive their was an elbow and always back it up with “happened right in front of me” but most Hartlepool fans believe that he didn’t, so I guess it’s one of those differences of opinion. Although, I still stand by it that Daly did not use an elbow.

Also, if the FA had have seen an ?accidental? elbow they wouldn?t have rescinded the red card as they like to leave things to the discretion of the referee and they?re not going to stand against him.

Quite a good debate this one but we are forgetting the main issue, regardless to whether Artell as you say exaggerated the incident or not.Was there any intent by Daly to commit the offence ? If this is what the officials believed to have happened could result in a red card. The keyword is the intent as just before the incident happened Daly & Artell had confronted each other when Artell seemed to catch Daly when going for a header. Was there a little retaliation ??I think the answer to this we will never know. Good luck for therest of the season and quite looking forward to our trip to the Vic, long long time since we last visited.
