Cooper – Result Wasn’t The Best

Manager Colin Cooper has said that our recent friendly loss to Whitby Town was still a productive run out for the team but he was obviously left disappointed with the final result as went down two one at the Turnbull Ground.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, the gaffer explained that he thought the team he selected should’ve been more than good value to pick up the pre season win, so on that score he was left disappointed at the full time whistle but he wasn’t too disheartened as he feels there were still plenty of positives.

‘I thought it was a good exercise and I thought it was a good game. Whitby’s winning goal was disappointing from our point of view obviously but I also thought there were some encouraging bits from young Connor Smith and Lewis Hawkins – those two in particular were good. The disappointment is that we haven’t beaten Whitby of the Northern League so you have to look at that, as much as I’ll stand here and say it’s about minutes under the belt, it’s a game that we should be comfortably winning that we haven’t.’

Cooper goes on to say that he was looking forward to seeing some of our training pitch work come to the fore and that did happen for spells of the game which pleased him, but clearly as we didn’t do that well at other points, there is still work to be done before the season kicks off properly.
