Confusion Over Wilder Approach

So it’s goes something like this, Halifax say official approach made, Pools deny, Halifax claim unofficial approach made, what next?

It’s been a confusing day today, first broke a news story on the Halifax Town official website that a League club had made an official approach to speak to their manager Chris Wilder.

Fans Halifax website shaymenonline named Pools as the club to make the approach. This afternoon Hartlepool United published a club statement denying making any approach for Wilder although they confirmed his agent did sumbit his CV after Martin Scott was relieved of his duties in February.

Earlier this evening Halifax released a counter statement claiming Pools made a direct approach to the players agent, confused? Me too, here’s what the latest Halifax statement said:-

‘Having spoken to Chris Wilder and his agent, Mark Cartwright of Premier Promotions, we are certain that the version of events as published by Hartlepool United is incorrect. Albeit that it is possible Chris might have appeared on a client list issued by Premier Promotions at some time in the past.

Mark Cartwright was contacted on Wednesday or Thursday of last week by a representative from Hartlepool, wishing to have an informal meeting with Chris Wilder regarding their current vacancy.

Our Manager declined to attend an informal meeting and was adamant that the Chairman,Geoff Ralph, should be notified that this approach had been made. The Chariman was informed on Saturday morning at a management meeting. Chris Wilder then declined to enter in to any talks, informal or otherwise and has acted professionally and honestly throughout.

Neither Halifax Town AFC, Chris Wilder or Mark Cartwright have ever said that talks had taken place.’

Now I’ve never seen any statement saying talks have taken place. Originally Halifax said that Pools had approached them and asked for permission to speak to Wilder, now they are claiming that’s not the case and that the approach was made to the agent.

Pools claim to have approached nobody but they have received Wilder’s CV from his agent. Is this a case of another agent trying to engineer a move for one of his clients?
