Sam Collins has today signed a new deal at Hartlepool that will see him continue as a playing staff member but also take up the role of Assistant First/Reserve Team Coach for 2014-15.

The 36 year old joined us back in January 2008 from Hull City and has gone on to make over 250 appearances for the club since then, the vast majority of those games were with him as skipper, and last season he took his first steps into the coaching role as he assisted John Hewitson during 2013-14 with the reserve team.

Speaking to the Official Site after the deal was done, Collins said.

‘This was an opportunity too good to turn down and I couldn’t wait to come in and get it all finalised and signed. And finally that day has come and I can’t wait to get started now.’

Having seen Craig Hignett depart last season, it’s expected that manager Colin Cooper will still bolster his backroom staff this summer.
