Coops wants to keep Anthony Sweeney as he’s offered him a new contract to stay at the Vic but interest from Carlisle is also being shown in him.

The Northern Echo is reporting that the experienced, and long serving, midfielder could be tempted to make the move to our League 2 rivals as such a move might result in him playing more of a part in their first team than he did ours last season.

A limited role under Coops wouldn’t have pleased him and without a real need to uproot Carlisle could represent a tempting prospect for him now that he’s a free agent.

I’ll be hoping that he stays but you never know when it comes to free agents, even if they’ve been offered a new contract.
