Hartlepool came to a mutual agreement with keeper Adam Bartlett on Tuesday to cancel his contract so he could take up a coaching role with Middlesbrough.

Bartlett had spent 18 months with Hartlepool and made 29 appearances but was allowed to leave Victoria Park having expressed a desire to take up a full time coaching role with the Premier League side, he’s previously coached part time with rivals Newcastle.

The 31 year old hasn’t retired through as a contract was signed with non-league club Darlington that allows Bartlett to continue his playing career too.

Despite Trevor Carson being injured Hartlepool still have Joe Fryer, Ben Dudzinski and Ryan Catterick as goalkeeping options available to Poolie boss Dave Jones.

An arrival at the Vic recently had seen former Bristol City and Wolves keeper Adriano Basso appointed as goalkeeping coach.
